The new 2020 BMW’s will feature a grille that is a drastically different design than previous ones. Instead of the classic design of typical BMW’s, the new model sports a grille that appears to be more “futuristic” looking. It’s hard to say whether or not BMW is trying to look more modern and tossing their old school ideals out the window. Many people might not be pleased with the way it looks, especially die hard BMW enthusiasts.
The Senior VP of product management at BMW mentioned that “BMW customers are demanding. They want to express something and are not afraid of vehicles with strong characters”. This may be true for some BMW owners, but is it safe to assume this is about all of them? Perhaps what they demand is consistency. They might not have expected BMW to try to reinvent the wheel when it comes to grille design. The new grille is objectively much larger than the previous designs, so it will be interesting to see how this new move plays out. The images featured in this blog post are a unique and novel attempt to make this hideous aluminum abomination look somewhat pleasant. But clearly, it looks really out of place.
Personally, we enjoy the older E36 and E39 “kidney” grilles.
